about

"Nowhere Songs" are solo tracks recorded over a period of three years jumbled together. Most songs deal with place - as a subject and as an active participant in the overall sound and style of each piece. Songs were recorded in attics, basements, barns, showers, practice rooms, houses, and apartments. In many cases a track of an acoustic instrument was recorded and then manipulated using various pedal effects.

Instruments used on the record include: Balinese and Javanese Gamelan, guitars (acoustic, electric, bass), Drums (sets, individual toms, bells, paint cans, tabla, djembe), Pianos (baby grand and upright), keyboards, Upright Bass, Violin, Viola, Guzheng, Sitar and Sitar guitar, Mandolin, Clarinet, Accordian, Mbira, Handle bars and a Gameboy.

Track Name: Soviet Train
Rust on the Rust
Each track and train wheel
Beats the other endlessly,
Each hollow towns a stoic stray
That whines but keeps her mouth shut.

Fires in fields are smoking.
Old machinery gathering.
Acres of sunflowers burning.
A skinny horse pulls a cart of dirt.
Track Name: Home
The Rain spills out of gutters filled with shells.
Through a crack in the window:
The broken trees hang in the yard.
Crows rest on the rusted tractor parts.
Tree house rots on high branches.
Blue oil barrels filled with feed
Stand in the dust next to the horse stalls.

Down the street, someone has knocked over a stop sign.
I prop it up with a stick and stare down the inlet.
Track Name: Flannel
The morning your hair smells like smoke.
A pond forming in a field.
Cutting your feet on the red dock.
A gutted car in the woods.

The speeds of joy, the lengths of sorrow.
Track Name: Dacha
Countries with out kindling burn coal.
I sit frozen in the snow.
Next to walls of thick, cracked wood.
Its silent.
I hear white.
Track Name: Dock
The dock, With its re-built bass boards,
Floating on sick yellow styrofoam.
You could swim under,
press your wet face against the wood.
The sun would slice in.
